Black eyes and orthotics

I played two ultimate frisbee games last week,  the Tossers played to a tie on Wednesday, and then Flick This lost on Thursday.  This was also the game in which I was hit in the face by a disc headed for the endzone, resulting in a fairly large gpose egg on my eyebrow and subsequent black eye.  The swelling is all but gone, and the bruising is mostly gone.

YARRR played at Stall Fall in Guelph on the weekend.  I forgot my orthotics, and my feet, ankles, calves, knees, thighs and hips are still hurting from the affiar.  Thank goodness I only played on Saturday!  Though I'm pretty sure walking around in white disco boots all night didn't help matters...  We played well, and hard, and came in 4th in the A division.  Great improvement from last year.

I've been doing my stretches for my knees.  They still hurt from the weekend, but my legs feel a lot better.  Here's hoping they make a difference!

1400 Stairs

Yesterday after work, I took a short walk to the Don Valley, 25 times up and down the Queen street stairs in about 30 minutes.  I'm pretty sure one guy on a bike thought my stainless water bottle might have been a bomb.  He looked at it for a while, even after I told him, loudly from mid way up the stairs, that it was my water.

In addition, I did:
Push-ups: 3 x 10 (mod)
Dips: 3 x 10
Sit-ups: 3 x 15 each straight, left and right
My calves were sore when I woke up this morning, but a quick stretch seemed to make them feel better.  Why my quads still don't hurt is a little beyond me.  Maybe it's because they're overdeveloped!

I was also talking to my aunt, who told me about a stretching regime her physiotherapist recommended for her knees that is working really well for her.  I'm going to give it a try.  While my knees are manageable, pain wise, they don't feel great.

FORE!

The family golf tournament was today, which doesn`t really count as training, I know.  I did walk the course (9 hole, 3 par) AND carried my bags.  That has to count for something right?

Tomorrow: Stairs!

Ultimate

Two ultimate games tonight, neither was great.  Though I did have a good run and catch in the 2nd game.  No one thought I'd get it.  Guess some of my training has paid off!

DUC Hunters had a rough go of it, and lost.  I found the wind to play a big factor in my game.  It was unfortunate that we had to end the season that way.

Gentle Tossers were playing for first place against a team that I disliked playing against, and it was no different this time.  They didn't know the rules, and then complained when we called them on things, like being out!  I'm pretty fair when I call fouls/ins/outs.  If it's questionable, I will generally make the call in the other team's favour.  I try and explain rules if someone seems to not know them.  I don't claim to know every detail of the rules by any means, I learn something new every time I play.  I feel like teams should know the basics, especially by the last game in the season.  Like what's out (on the line) and what's in (inside the line).  In any case, we lost, and I am still frustrated by the whole affair.  Again, it was an unfortunate end to a great season!
